Lindsey Holmes
About
A native of Nevada, Ms. Holmes graduated from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1987, with a B.A. degree in Economics (with honors). She then attended law school in San Francisco at Golden Gate University Law School, graduating in 1990. While in law school, Ms. Holmes represented the law school for two years as a member of its mock trial team in a number of national competitions, and she was a teaching assistant for the school’s trial advocacy program. This experience, along with years of experience in speech and debate competitions, going back to high school, ensured that by the time she was admitted to the bar, in December of 1990, she was prepared to hit the ground running as a litigator.
Ms. Holmes began her legal career as a Deputy Public Defender for Contra Costa County. After approximately three years, she opted to leave the criminal arena for civil litigation. In 1993, Ms. Holmes took a position with the long-established San Francisco insurance defense firm of Bledsoe, Cathcart, Diestel, Livingston and Pederson. She served as defense counsel for a number of national insurers, including Kemper, State Farm, CSAA and others. In that capacity, Ms. Holmes served as defense counsel for insured homeowners and business owners. The cases she handled included claims of premises liability, negligence, negligent supervision/entrustment, and wrongful eviction. Wrongful eviction cases in San Francisco are, and were at that time, governed by San Francisco’s complex and aggressive rent ordinance. The experience she gained in that context was both invaluable and unique.
In 1997, Ms. Holmes relocated to Butte County to be near family. She immediately took a position with Craig, Shepherd & Crabtree, where she again handled insurance defense cases. While with the Shepherd firm, and later after establishing her own practice, Ms. Holmes’ client base and experience broadened, to include general civil litigation cases, transactional matters and estate planning. From 2005 to 2010, Ms. Holmes focused on serving as trial counsel in plaintiff’s personal injury cases. From 2011 on, she established her practice as a general law/litigation practice. Ms. Holmes career continues at the Law Offices of Larry S. Buckley as of 2025, continuing to practice personal injury law.
